PTG members Giuseppe Indelicato, Andrea Ravenni, and Daniel Mira visited the Repsol Technology Lab in Madrid in May 2026 to present and discuss the final results of a year-long project developed in collaboration with the Repsol Product Design team. The visit also provided an opportunity for a stimulating exchange with other Repsol teams on future research directions.
The project focused on developing models for the prediction of physico-chemical properties of fuels and fuel blends (e.g, octane number, vapor pressure, distillation curve…) by combining data-driven machine learning with thermodynamic modelling. The resulting tools simplify costly experimental campaigns offering a preliminary fuel screening and blend optimization. Applied to sustainable aviation fuels, these tools will speed up the development of new drop-in fuel candidates that will reduce emissions in the aviation sector.
